Eric Bainbridge

Eric Bainbridge was born in 1955 and studied in Leeds, Newcastle and London graduating with an MA in sculpture from the Royal College of Art in 1981. His reputation was established in the USA and Europe following solo exhibitions at Salvatore Ala Gallery, New York (from 1985–94), the Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis (1986), ICA, Boston (1987), The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1990), Cornerhouse, Manchester, (1997) and DELFINA London, (1997). From 1989 to 1991 he was Henry Moore Fellow at the Slade School of Art and in 1996 received the Paul Hamlyn Foundation prize for sculpture. Recent exhibitions have included a retrospective at mima, Middlesbrough in 2008, Galleria Caroline + Salvatore Ala, Milan in 2009 and Modern British Sculpture at the Royal Academy in 2011. In September 2012 CIRCA Projects presented the first exhibition focused on Eric’s video works dating from 1993. In 2012 Bainbridge will present a new solo-show of his collage works at Camden Art Centre, London.
