May’s Artist Focus: Sir Peter Blake
Sir Peter Blake has been one of our most loved artists for a while now so we thought it was about time to show off his work! He’s been grabbing headlines once again as he created a giant collage for the Royal Albert Hall. Immortalised forever in his collage were 324 of the incredible artists, performers, poets, sportsmen and woman who have graced that stage including Black Sabbath, Cirque du Soleil, Sir Alfred Hitchcock, Annie Lennox and the Rolling Stones to name a few.
Blake’s work always attracts attention. His status as one of the most influential members of the Pop Art movement is undisputed. Pushing the boundaries, Blake always delivers, with a lasting impact on the cultural world.
Shooting to fame in the 1950s after his work became hailed as the one to watch, he went on to design the sleeve for The Beatle’s Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and from that went to design further sleeves for Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? and Paul Weller’s Stanley
Road. He became a firm favourite within the music scene, creating numerous album covers including Getting In Over My Head for Brian Wilson and the unused design for Landscape’s Manhattan Boogie Woogie.
To celebrate his 80th birthday last year Pallant House Gallery held a brilliant exhibition to celebrate his long association with music.
We currently stock a wide variety of Blake’s best work.
