Marc Riboud

Marc Riboud was one of the first Magnum photographers. Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa arranged for Riboud’s first photograph to be published in Life magazine. The photograph was Paris, featured here. Although Riboud works primarily in black and white he has also created a significant body of colour photography. The most famous of these are his images of Huang Shan, a range of mountains in China. The images struck a chord with his close friend Jackie Onassis Kennedy, who insisted they were published. They were named Capital of Heaven after one of the peaks in the mountain range. In 1998 Riboud was awarded the Prix de la Ville de Paris, and the Leica Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. Marc Riboud’s work is held in the permanent collections of New York’s MOMA and Metropolitan Museum, Musee dArt Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and Musee de Mexico.
