Justine Smith

Justine Smith was initially known for her unique renditions of dogs and animals. Expert at capturing the poise and personality of her subjects, Smith was famed in particular for her dog sculptures collaged in Beano comics. Smith then used genuine currency such as US dollars and sterling to create works with humour as well as political comment. The iconic nature of the banknote, its inherent value and singular usage disrupts our usual associations, creating an unexpected relationship between form and surface.
