Josie McCoy paints characters from film and television, working from photographs taken from the screen. Her paintings and prints represent an isolated moment and present a subject matter which is fictional but familiar within contemporary culture. McCoy is a graduate of Central St Martin’s College, London. She took part in the Castellon Painting Prize 2005 at Municipal Art Centre of Alcorcon, Madrid and has exhibited in the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London. She has exhibited widely, having shown in London, Paris and Milan.
